Story Cove Releases New Online Classroom Version to Support the Common Core Standards

This fall Story Cove is pleased to announce a new subscription service for schools with online access to an award winning collection of 22 highly engaging stories from the world’s great oral traditions. Each whimsical folktale features Animation, Read-Along and Read-to-Me versions of the story, along with differentiated lesson plans correlated to the Common Core Standards for Reading. In addition, all of the stories have been leveled using the Fountas & Pinnell and Lexile systems so that teachers can be more prescriptive when they assign stories to an individual child or to reading groups in their classrooms.

Steve Floyd, President, explained, “With Story Cove teachers and librarians can incorporate these classic, timeless stories into their lessons and supplemental reading activities while meeting the new requirements defined by the Common Core Standards. These carefully selected folktales not only entertain young children, they also provide valuable life lessons and reinforce cultural traditions.” Floyd noted that, “Story Cove has been particularly effective in Title I programs where teachers are challenged to help students, who are reading behind grade level, meet the rigorous requirements specified by the Common Core Standards.”

In order to help teachers actively engage young children, the Story Cove website offers much more than just online access to children's picture books. It provides additional supplemental resources for educators to complement each story with enhanced learning tools including:

● An animated version of each story

● A read-to-me audio version of the folktale

● A read-a-long audio version of the folktale

● Differentiated lesson plans for each of the world stories

● Lesson plans for K-2nd grade aligned with the Common Core Standards for Reading

● Activities for children to supplement their reading of each folktale

Story Cove has been recognized by the BESSIE Awards from ComputerEd Gazette, the Mom’s Choice Awards and a Storytelling World Honor Award. Children's Bookwatch of the Midwest Book Review wrote that, “Story Cove is a series of very highly recommended stories and folk tales from around the world for beginning readers that combines charming and colorful artwork with simple, easy-reader texts ideal for children ages 4 to 8. The series titles would make particularly good choices as school and community library reading program incentive prizes.” Over 200,000 Story Cove books are currently being used in schools.
