Jennifer MacDonald Whitman

Jennifer MacDonald Whitman has made storytelling the heart of her classroom for as long as she's been teaching. She began her education career in Washington State before moving overseas to teach at international schools in Hong Kong, Germany, and Thailand.

Jen is an early childhoold specialist and has taught Grades K-2 for over fifteen years. In addition to her years of classroom experiences, Jen is a professional storyteller. She performs as a tandem-telling team with her husband, Nat, in schools and libraries around the world. They have presented workshops on using storytelling in the classroom in a variety of settings, including educational conferences for the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS).

Jen and Nat recently teamed with Dr. Margaret Read MacDonald to write a how-to guide for storytelling in the classroom. They are excited to share the 2015 Anne Izard Storyteller's Choice Award winner Teaching with Story: Classroom Connections to Storytelling. The book pairs Jen, Nat, and Margaret's thoughts about the power of story in teaching with 20 easy-to-learn folktales you can tell right away. Jen and Nat continue to be amazed at the power of storytelling to transform student learning in the classroom and they are delighted to be teaming with Margaret Read MacDonald to encourage teachers around the globe to teach with story!
