August House Announces The Re-Release of Three Classic Collections

The Round Book, The Skit Book and The Broken Tusk

Atlanta, GA — August 21, 2006

In a move that is certain to solidify their position as the premiere publisher of folklore and story collections, August House Publishers (www.augusthouse.com) is announcing the release of three books that have a little something for everyone, whether you are teaching in a classroom, heading off to camp or just contemplating Hindu tales.

The collections released in October are:

The Round Book

This handy paperback presents 80 songs designed to be sung as rounds. From sixteenth-century tunes to contemporary camp songs, the selection is rich and varied. A fine resource for school music teachers, choir directors, camp leaders, kids and anyone who needs something to drown out the eternal car trip question, "Are we there yet?" or the challenge of what to do with a group of children after lunch on a rainy day. By Margaret Read MacDonald (Conejito) and Winifred Jaeger, illustrated by Yvonne LeBrun Davis.

The Skit Book

Viewing skits as an aspect of folklore, this is more a general resource than just a book of scripts. A list of characters, an outline of the action and suggested dialogue is given for each skit. This book is perfect for anyone leading a group of kids at home, at camp or at school. Who knows where the next great actors might be coming from and who can resist the fun of acting out these stories? By Margaret Read MacDonald (Conejito) and Winifred Jaeger, illustrated by Marie-Louise Scull.

The Broken Tusk (Stories of the Hindu God Ganesha)

This collection of Hindu folktales for middle readers features stories about the Hindu god, Ganesha, who is easily recognized by his elephant head. Most of the stories come from Hindu legends. One tale originated in Mongolia, where Ganesha made his way into the Hindu tradition. The pen-and-ink illustrations have child appeal and readers will find the pronunciation guide and glossary a great help. Retold by Uma Krishnaswami.
