Stone Soup Selected As A "Book To Be Shared"
By Better Homes & Gardens Magazine

Atlanta, GA — November 9, 2005

August House Publishers' Stone Soup, retold by Heather Forest and illustrated by Susan Gaber, has been selected as one of just six "Books To Be Shared" in the December issue of Better Homes & Gardens.

The magazine recognized the half dozen children's titles as "some of our favorite picture books that show interaction among generations." In addition to it's "Books To Be Shared" selection, "Stone Soup is included in the issue's "The Magic of Reading Together" column, both features of the Better Homes & Garden's Reading Club.

In Stone Soup, a cumulative retelling of an ancient and widely circulated legend, storyteller Forest shows that when each person makes a small contribution, "the collective impact can be huge." Gaber's acrylic paintings portray the optimism and timelessness of a story that celebrates teamwork and generosity. A recipe and activity section on making stone soup makes the book an especially useful classroom resource. Stone Soup has won a Parents' Choice Award and been selected as a Best Children's Book of the Year by Bank Street College.

Known nationally for her minstrel-style storytelling, Heather Forest is the author of two books of folktales, Wonder Tales from Around the World and Wisdom Tales from Around the World. She is also a recording artist with two recordings in the August House Audio line, Wonder Tales from Around the World, and The Animals Could Talk, winner of the Parents' Choice Gold Award.
