Heather Forest, Margaret Read MacDonald, Dan Keding & Josepha Sherman To Appear at August House Booth at ALA 2005


Atlanta, GA — June 14, 2005

Appearances by popular, award-winning authors and storytellers Heather Forest (Stone Soup), Margaret Read MacDonald (Fat Cat), Dan Keding (Stories of Hope and Spirit) and Josepha Sherman (Trickster Tales) will highlight the booth (#4532) activity for August House Publishers at the American Library Association Conference in Chicago. Heather Forest

Award-winning author Heather Forest will be appearing Saturday, June 25 (10:00am - Noon) and Sunday, June 26 (Noon - 2:00pm) and will be signing copies of her upcoming August House release Feathers. In Forest's fifth book with August House, illustrated by Marcia Cutchin, a woman learns that hurtful words — like the feathers blown from a burst pillow — are impossible to retrieve.

Forest is the author of two previous award-winning picture books from August House: Stone Soup (Parent's Choice Award) and A Big Quiet House (American Bookseller Pick of the List). A professional storyteller for twenty-five years, she has been named to the prestigious Circle of Excellence of the National Storytelling Network.


Margaret Read MacDonald

Called the "grand dame of storytelling," Margaret Read MacDonald will be on-hand Saturday, June 25 (12 Noon - 2:00pm) and Sunday, June 26 (10:00 am - 12 Noon) to sign copies of her highly acclaimed August House title Three Minute Tales. MacDonald is a multiple award-winning folklorist, children's librarian, and the author of more than 30 books on folklore and storytelling.

Previous picture books from the former children's librarian in the King County (WA) Library System, include Fat Cat (Parent's Choice Award), The Old Woman Who Lived in a Vinegar Bottle (Storytelling World Award), The Girl Who Wore Too Much (NCSS/CBC Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People) and numerous other Storytelling World Award winners.


Dan Keding

Dan Keding, who has been entertaining audiences for almost thirty years with stories and ballads, tales and song, will appear Monday, June 27 (12 Noon - 3:00 pm) to sign his most recent August House book Stories of Hope and Spirit .

Keding has performed at some of the most prestigious festivals in the world including The National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee and over a hundred more. Stories of Hope and Spirit recently won a 2005 Storytelling World Award. His recordings have won numerous awards including The Notable Children's Recording from the American Library Association and Storytelling World Awards.


Josepha Sherman

Josepha Sherman will be signing copies of her popular August House book Trickster Tales on Monday, June 27 (10:00 - 12 Noon). She is the winner of the prestigious Compton Crook Award for best fantasy novel and has had many titles on the New York Public Library Books for the Teen Reader list.
