Why, do tell yarns will be spinning as the Chattanooga Downtown Partnership plays host to the first TaleSpin Festival, a major storytelling event Friday through May 14.
National tellers will include Connie Regan-Blake, Gayle Ross, Andy Offutt Irwin, Kathryn Windham, Angela Lloyd, Doug Elliott, Bobby Norfolk and Jim Pfitzer. Local and regional storytellers will also be featured on Saturday and May 14.
A kickoff event featuring the eight national storytellers and music from the New City Fellowship Choir will be held Friday at the historic Tivoli Theatre.
Ross's Landing on the Tennessee River will be the centerpiece for the festival Saturday and May 14, with storytelling under festival tents throughout the day followed by ghost stories at night. A Mother's Day storytelling breakfast cruise aboard the Southern Belle Riverboat is May 14.
Tickets are not required to enter the festival marketplace or the food court tents, both of which will be open Saturday and May 14. The market will offer event memorabilia, merchandise from featured storytellers and a variety of publications from August House, the multimedia publisher of children's stories, folktale anthologies and resource books. The food court will feature local cuisine along with bluegrass, folk and other traditional music on the performance stage.
